Napa Farmers Market
What They Do:
Provide access to healthy, farm-direct produce for all. Double the assistance available to our low-income neighbors and help fill the nutrition gap. Welcome CalFresh households to shop at the market through a token-matching program that provides a dollar-for-dollar match to spend with market vendors on eligible items.
When CalFresh shoppers visit the Napa Farmers Market and swipe their EBT card to withdraw $25 from their CalFresh account, they receive $50 in tokens to spend on eligible items. They now have double the access to healthy, local, sustainably or organically grown products.
In five years, Napa Farmers Market’s token-matching program has grown from $500 to more than $12,000. This means that in 2017, CalFresh families were able to purchase more than $24,000 in eligible items: fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, dairy products, breads, cereals, and seeds and plants that produce food.
Other Ways to Help:
The Market always needs volunteers. Volunteer activities include:
- Children’s education
- Produce tasting
- Assisting with Chef Demos
- Market set-up and breakdown
- Tending the information booth
- Taking customer surveys
- Providing general assistance to the Market Manager
Shifts are a minimum of three hours. Volunteers help the market thrive and receive discounts from some market vendors.
The Market’s business partner is The Peter and Vernice Gasser Foundation. The Foundation provides our rent-free location, assists with our business needs and helps promote us.
