What They Do:
Empower families to make positive changes by accessing health and social services, improving educational skills, becoming more engaged in the community, and achieving self-sufficiency. They align services with partners in private, public, and nonprofit sectors to meet clients’ most pressing needs. In 2017, Puertas Abiertas added immigration assistance and mental health and wellness programs.
Puertas Abiertas’ programs include case mentoring, English as a Second Language (ESL), free tax preparation, civic engagement, mobile Mexican passport/ID clinic, a seniors’ and women’s support group, a college readiness program, basic computer skills, and Plaza Comunitaria (a Spanish literacy program).
