Puertas Abiertas Community Resource Center

Puertas Abiertas Community Resource Center

What They Do:

Empower families to make positive changes by accessing health and social services, improving educational skills, becoming engaged in the community, and achieving self-sufficiency. Align services with partners in private, public and nonprofit sectors to meet clients’ most pressing needs. Since 2005, Puertas Abiertas has provided immigration assistance, mental health wellness programs, and other social services.

Puertas Abiertas advocates for our community to have access to four fundamental elements:  housing, food, counseling services and healthcare.

Puertas Abiertas’ programs include case mentoring, English as a Second Language Classes (ESL), free tax preparation, civic engagement workshops, mobile Mexican passport/ID clinic, support groups for seniors, women, and couples.

They also provide college readiness programs, informative workshops such as Job Readiness, Labor Rights, Tenant Rights, basic computer skills, and Plaza Comunitaria (a Spanish literacy program).

Puertas Abiertas is a long-time trusted partner with local nonprofits, the Mexican Consulate, the California Department of Labor and others.

Other Ways to Help:

Due to growth of our client base, support is needed with purchasing:

  • a large capacity office printer
  • six tables
  • 20 chairs

Testimonial:

Navigating a complex system in this society is difficult, but it is more difficult for someone like me at my age who does not have access to health care due to my immigration status. I found a warm and comfortable place here at Puertas Abiertas; they do not judge your situation, they look at the needs of human beings.
