Reading Is Fun (RIF)
What They Do:
Encourage children’s love for reading. Distribute free, age-appropriate books in English and Spanish. Children may take books home and keep them. Focus on outreach to children of low-income/non-English speaking families since 1993. RIF is a project of the Federated Women of Upper Napa Valley.
Reading is Fun is a community outreach program of the Federated Women of Upper Napa Valley. Federated Women have a rich history of raising and donating money to the community through scholarships, the Veterans Home, VOICES, and Reading is Fun. R.I.F. ‘s free books have been distributed to approximately 6,000 children over the last 25 years. Our R.I.F. program visits three Boys & Girls Clubs and three low-income apartment sites several times each year. Children enjoy a special story time with the St. Helena Children’s Librarian. The R.I.F. books are highly cherished and often the only children’s books in their homes.
Other Ways to Help:
- Observe an RIF program to learn more about what we are doing.
- Volunteer 1-2 times per month at one or more of our six sites.
- Bring cookies to a meeting.
- Help mark purchased books with the FWUNV stamp.
